The Sentinel of Ash Cave

The Sentinel of Ash Cave

acrylic, oil on yupo paper, 38" x 26" 2015

This work involves the convergence of the engineered and the organic in an attempt to bring together two elements by nature strange to one another. Representational painting and geometric abstraction combine to reveal dual realities of nature and industry. I believe in the importance of this work not only for myself, in an attempt to bring my own diverse histories into harmony, but for the world outside myself. Too often nature and man are put at odds with each other. I intend for the work to depart from the typical separation of the industrial and the natural and move toward a melding of the two. Both these worlds exist in the same space, if they were made to work together, instead of pitting one against the other we just might save ourselves.
